2015 in music: My personal favourite tracks
What an incredible year for music! Lot of great cuts and albums from all over the world. Listed below my favourite tracks for 2015. I put a top 10 but it would be longer and longer… Enjoy and drop me a line, let me know what you think!
1. Hiatus Kaiyote
Absolutely the best band of 2015. Grammy nominated for the second time (2016), this quartet from Australia is probably better live than recorded. “Shaolin Monk Motherfunk” is one of the main tracks of their new album entitled “Choose Your Weapon”. Great great work!
2. Anderson .Paak
He’s one of the most promising artist of 2016. Based in LA and featured six times in Dr. Dre’s latest album named “Compton”, Anderson .Paak is one of my top notch artist for 2015. I love his first album “Venice” dropped this year.
3. Tame Impala
Another band based in LA which dropped an incredible album this year called “Currents” on Modular Recordings, nominated to a Grammy 2016 for Best Alternative Music Album. “The Less I Know The Better” is one of my favourite tracks and the video is great too. They are touring Europe since January 2016 but unfortunately Italy is not listed.
4. The Internet
Syd tha Kid’s band is as young as mature with “Ego Death”, the third album released in 2015 and nominated to a Grammy 2016 for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Take a listen to this track but also to the entire album, it really worth it.
5. Kendrick Lamar
This position and the next one are dedicated to a couple of great artists that released two beatiful works this year. I’m referring to Kendrick Lamar as first and Thundercat that alongside with Flying Lotus featured some cuts in Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly”.
“Alright” is another great song/video of 2015, nominated for a Grammy 2016 for Song of the Year. Lamar has been nominated also for Album of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Dance Recording, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Collaboration, Rap Song, Rap Album and Best Music Video. No words… Enojy!
He released three solo albums but he’s also got many featurings with producers like Erikah Badu, Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington, Flying Lotus, Taylor McFerrin and Bilal to name a few. Such an incredible creative mind, listed with Kendrick Lamar and Bilal and Anna Wise on the nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Grammy 2016.
Grab a coffee and relax. This artist from Canada, but once again based in LA, released an album called “Key Change”. I bought a copy in Berlin at Dussmann last October and I’m still not tired of that.
His album “Dornik” has been released last summer. Jessie Ware’s tour drummer did a very good job, remembering Michael Jackson some way. Listen to the single “Drive” which has been also remixed by BADBADNOTGOOD.
9. Tom Misch
Ok, I listed some very famous artists nominated for Grammy awards but I have to mention a very young and talented artist that really blew my mind. Take a listen to “Beatiful Escape” part of the “Beat Tape 2” EP obviously released this year.
As Tom Misch they haven’t been nominated for a Grammy but I love their simplicity and “classic sounding”. This song called “Do It” dropped in November 2014 but the album “Tuxedo” has been released in 2015. “Tuxedo is here, stay classy!”
